I’m a One-Year Survivor By: Catherine DuBay-General manager
A year ago this week, in this same spot, I announced my recent diagnosis with breast cancer. Thankfully, I am writing today as a healthy, happy, survivor and strangely enough, a better person because of it. No one else may notice the difference in me, but for those of you who have gone through an illness or life-changing event may understand how you feel on the back end. Just a little less concerned with the little things and much more appreciative life in general. Before cancer I always thought I was grateful for my good health-it helped me through pregnancies, bad times, good times, and everything in between.
However, until I was brought to the depths of surgeries, chemotherapy, and surgical menopause, I had no idea how lucky I am to be healthy!
Unfortunately in the last year I have lost a friend to breast cancer and have had several friends and members diagnosed with breast cancer. It is with all of this in mind that the club is hosting:
CYCLE FOR A CAUSE-Saturday, April 17-6am – 6pm.
This event will raise money for breast cancer victims and research so that together we can help bring this epidemic to an end. We will also raise money for Girls on the Run-Sonoma County. This is a program designed to help young girls build self-respect and confidence through running. So just in case we are unable to eradicate breast cancer for the next generation, we will have prepared these women with the tools needed to deal with the diagnosis.
I hope you can join us!
